Possessing great mana (spiritual power), Waimea Valley occupies a uniquely important place in Hawaiian lore and culture. Spending time there is a whole lot of fun, and you’ll also receive an education in history, botany and more.
The valley is now overseen by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, whose mission is a worthy one. It is home to marvelous gardens, two prominent heiau (Hawaiian temples) and a delightful waterfall and swimming hole reached via a pleasant ¾-mile walk. This is a place to linger, so please do so during your trip to the North Shore.
