In a delightful cove bordered by rocky sea cliffs, Makapu‘u is a dramatically scenic beach. It is a prime boogie-boarding and bodysurfing spot because it has waves and shore break year-round. Exercise caution, though: Rip currents and large rocks mean this isn’t the place to take a relaxing swim. The far side, away from the lighthouse, is safer.
- Quiet and uncrowded with great views and great waves. Makapu‘u Lighthouse is right up the road.
- In summertime, explore small tide pools and marine life in the rocks on the shoreline.
- The size of the beach changes throughout the year.
